Located in the financial district of Seoul, Korea and adjacent to a large park, this new complex includes a six story glass shopping mall with an indoor bamboo forest, a connected luxury hotel and two office towers, one of which will be among the tallest buildings in Korea. Designed by architect Lord Richard Rogers, chief architectural advisor to the mayor of London, and landscape architect Martha Schwartz, Parc1 will be the first in Seoul to offer visitors a single world-class venue for recreation, shopping and work.
With iconic architecture and landscape as a backdrop, the bold concept of fractals, was chosen to symbolize the fusion of architecture with natural environment. Fractals, fragmented geometric patterns found in nature that are repeated at every scale, were abstracted graphically and displayed on the exterior facades, interior walls and signage. Then utilizing “smart” technology the idea was to create an immersive experience for shoppers through reactive and self-generated media that is projected on directories and various surfaces throughout the site, thus creating a sense of “organic” architecture.
